Happy 1/2 Birthday to Reed

Our little Reed is one and a half today. For a special treat he got to pick out something special at the Family Christian Store. He chose Bob the Tomato. His Auntie Andra had gotten him Larry the Cucumber, whom he loves. But he has a newfound love for Bob the Tomato. And the one he picked out talks too- so he is quite pleased with himself.
ALSO- yesterday I discovered that Reed can read! I was reading him a book and on one page Elmo and his friends go to the zoo. Reed pointed to the "Zoo" sign and said, "ZOO!" Then he jumped up and ran to get his favorite book, Dear Zoo. He pointed to the title and said, "Zoo!"
THEN- at my mom's house we were reading some new books he'd never seen before and one was "Cordoroy Goes to the Zoo". As soon as I showed him the book he said, "ZOO!". Ok- I'm still thinking this was coincidental. So my mother-in-law suggested I write the word ZOO on a sheet of paper and see if he says anything. As soon as I showed it to him he yelled, "ZOO!"
So you see-- my son is brilliant. :)
I've never been one of those people who believes in shoving knowledge down a child's throat-- like flashcards and teaching them to read and such before the normal age. But he loves books so much that I guess we shouldn't be so surprised. I will start writing out some easy words and teaching them to him. I guess God really gave us the perfect name for our book-loving child!
