Clare had her physical evaluation from Early Childhood Intervention this morning. Basically we were checking on her hips and legs to see if everything was 'normal'. She is army crawling around pretty good, but doesn't like to stand and isn't pulling up on anything to try to stand.
The results were about what I expected. They said by now (11 months) she should be bearing more weight on her legs and shifting her weight from one leg to the other and bending her knees. She should be pulling up in her crib or the couch. She has great posture when she sits, which is a sign that her hips are ok because she's strong enough to sit up straight for a long time. But she's only bearing weight on one leg when she stands. We'll work on that.
When she crawls, she swings her hips out to do the splits and then sits up. (See photo) We need to teach her to tuck her legs up under herself instead. That's our first step and should be the foundation to help strengthen her legs and that will lead to all the other things. Now's the perfect time to do this- before she has to be totally retrained in how to sit/get up.
So they'll be coming out once a week to help teach me things to do with Clare to help her build strength.
I'm just thrilled this program is available and she qualifies and now is the perfect time to do it, etc... What a blessing!
